The SAG Awards: Bueno

My favorite of the SAGs was Mila Kunis in this Alexander McQueen.  When I saw it on the red carpet last night I wasn't able to get a great look at it and I wasn't so sure.  The way the dress falls, the belt, the simple accessories and with her gorgeous hair, Mila is shutting it down.  (Photo courtsey of The New York Daily News)

The SAG Awards: No bueno

I definitely thought that Jenna Fischer was the worst dressed of the evening.  I can't put my finger on it but there is just something about this gown that is completely unflattering and although Jenna Fischer is adorable, this dress is doing her no justice.   (Photo courtesy of The New York Daily News)

Happy Friday!

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. — Walt Disney

When I was a kiddo I would sleep, eat, and breath all things Disney.  The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Aladdin and I wanted anything and everything with Mickey Mouse on it.  Thankfully like many things, I grew out of that phase.  Although I do still have a vintage looking Mickey Mouse t-shirt that I occasionally like to throw on with a blazer, a sequin scarf, jeans and some fun heels for a fun night on the town.  Maybe tonight....

That 70's show

I haven't posted in a bit because I have been trying to get some techy work done on this thing.  I am not really that technologically inclined.  Clearly there is more to be done but that will all come in due time.  Meanwhile, I am seriously feeling a 70's vibe right now which I think we can all thank Rachel Zoe for.  I am dying for a pair of light colored flare jeans, an amazing tunic like the Tolani one that Jessica Alba is sporting in the above photo, the quintessential giant hat, and although I won't be adding the Jimmy Choo clog like heels to my cart, I will be sporting some this spring.  I was a little slow to hop onto the clog parade but I finally bought a pair and am in love.  And what of jewelry you might ask?  Gold chains, hoops, and rings.  Pile it on.

Five Things

I made a list of at least five things that every modern day girl should have in her wardrobe. Obviously there are more than five but I will continue to post things in the future to add to the (always growing in my case) list! Here we go:

1.) A basic black pump. Maybe in patent for extra oomph but patent doesn't always go with everything. This shoe can be worn with pants, skirts, dresses and at work or out on the down. Having them be Christian Louboutins would of course be a dream come true!

2.) The basic white button down shirt. These come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. My personal fave for myself is a boyfriend white button down from the Gap that I am truly obsessed with. The best thing about this one is that it doesn't have to be any "style" in particular. You can pick the best white button down for your life!

3.) Black pants. Work. Play. Enough said.

4.) The classic khaki trench. Of course it would be lovely for it to be Burberry like Emma Watson (love her!) is wearing in this photo but every where you turn, especially this time of year, you can find one. Old Navy, Gap, and even Target have great less expensive options.

5.) And last but not least, the statement piece. Is it a bag? A ring? A giant necklace? Every girl should have a couple stand out pieces that make an outfit with essential (sometimes boring....) items from your closet. For me it is usually a shoe, a bag, or a great necklace. Or maybe one of each...not all at the same time of course.

A little of this and a dash of that.

Here are some pictures for no reason in particular. While I am normally not a "pink" type of girl, I am well aware that most of these photos contain the color. (and yes I am well aware that my blog background is pink, I don't think it will be for long). These are just things I am thinking about lately, seeing and feeling whimsical about. Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my favorite movies as is An Education which I watched again last weekend. (If I owe you photo credit, please e-mail me and I will oblige.)

Chanel does it again.

Every where I look lately I am seeing Chanel Black Pearl nail polish. My friends are wearing it, the blogs are talking about it, and celebrities are probably over it already. Some how Chanel always manages to create the hottest most talked about nail colors of the season. A few years ago it was Black Satin (which I am currently sporting, how passe of me), then it was Blue Satin, Particuliere, and of course the never forgotten and always a staple, Vamp. Is it because they are out there creating the buzz, because it is THE hot color of the season? Or simply because they are Chanel? I really can't think of a better reason. And the worst....

As much as it pains me to say it, this was the worst of the evening. I dabbled with Helena Bonham Carter but she is just quirky and frankly Michelle should know better. I generally love, love, love how Michelle Williams dresses but this Valentino is odd and unflattering. (I saw Blue Valentine this weekend btw, and if you haven't seen it GO. Fantastic performances). Hopefully this is just a fashion hiccup for Michelle and she will wow me through the rest of awards season. (photo courtesy of New York Daily News)

The best!

Claire Danes gets my personal vote for best dressed last night at the Golden Globes. Her look is the epitomy of everything I think red carpet dressing should be about. She took a cue from all of the other lovely Hollywood ladies recently wearing pink when she chose this simple Calvin Klein collection gown, chic accessories and a simple hair style. The finished look is simple, elegant and subtlely sexy. Well done! (photo courtesy of New York Daily News)

Orange you glad I didn't say...yellow?

I have to say that orange is seriously having a moment. This photo of Malin Ackerman courtesy of InStyle.com is one of the many pops of the citrus color that I have seen popping up on the red (black as this case would have it) carpet lately. Orange is tough to pull off though if you have the wrong skin tone while I adore this full on orange look, I think I will be sticking to orange in the form of a great bag or a fantastic pair of shoes. I am so feeling that for summer (I am not entirely sure why we are seeing so much orange right now) with a leopard print shoe or belt or a pop of orange with a khaki shirt dress. In the mean time, you better get out your self tanning lotion.

The Satorialist

One of my all time favorite blogs is The Satorialist (which is where I pulled this photo). Grabbing people off the street to photograph, this blog always gets it right and never ceases to amaze me. The photography is always fantastic and I am truly astounded at the every day style of people around the world. This photograph specifically speaks to me because it takes me back of a time of elegance and sophistication where people dressed up all the time, women wore gloves and men wore fedoras. I mean, who doesn't love a great hat?

A few words from Coco herself...

Quotations
"Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening."--Coco Chanel

Lip Service!

I could seriously be a walking advertisement for MAC Cosmetics. They are by far my favorite products of all time. Their eye shadows are perfectly pigmented, their Blacktrack Wave Line is the non-negotiable of all black gel eye liner, their brushes are fantastic, classic lip colors and the list goes on and on. This past Friday I was in a bit of a funk and went to see my favorite MAC girl for a pick me up. As a girl with a drawer full of lipsticks, gels, balms, gloss and glass I have discovered my new favorite lip product. The product is Kissable Lipcolour. I chose Woo Me which is a super sheer nude color and perfect just to swipe on before I run out the door. Plus, the color is long lasting and not at all drying like other long lasting lip products. I love, love, love to wear lip color because I think it always completes a look and this one is definitely not intimidating to the man in your life! I may go back for a few more colors...

Don't hold the mustard.

A while ago two of my favorite blogs http://cupcakesandcashmere.com/ and http://shutupilovethat.onsugar.com/ both posted about how mustard (the color not the condiment!) is totally having a moment right now. I am definitely feeling in sync with both of these girls because this fall I felt like I was seeing mustard every where. I was finally able to pick up a mustard cardigan that I have been wearing with dresses, a floral peasant top, and of course every stylish girl's go to staple, the striped boatneck. I am also loving mustard with a splash of leopard print. I thought that I would chime in with these lovley ladies and give you my spin on mustard's moment.

Perfection

I have long been a fan of Rachel McAdams. While I didn't necessarily think that Morning Glory was a fantastic movie, I always love seeing Rachel on the red carpet and this Michael Kors gown doesn't disappoint. The dress, the jewelry, the hair, all perfect and perfectly simple. This look is not overdone or fussy but simlpy fabulous. (Photo courtesy of InStyle.com)
