Sahara Smith

Sahara Smith is an Austin singer/songwriter that I recently discovered because she was on the cover of Austin Monthly.  Her first album, Myth of the Heart, was produced by T. Bone Burnett (of Crazy Heart fame and oh-so-much more), which is kind of a big deal.  I listen to this album almost non-stop lately on Spotify.  You must check it out!  And if you don't have Spotify yet, go there.  You can listen to newly released albums for free and create/save your playlists.  It is so much better than the randomness fo Pandora and the hit or miss situation with Grooveshark.  I am even considering Spotify premium so I can stream music wherever I go and listen in my car.  Sounds kind of amazing to me!

Pinterest

I first learned about Pinterest a few months ago and have become obsessed.  I love the fact that I can create a virtual inspiration board without all the tearing, cutting, pasting that I would regularly do for an inspiration board (although I still find that fun).  If you haven't checked out Pinterest yet, you should, and you too will soon be obsessed!  Follow me here:  http://pinterest.com/tastedictator/

Wish List

I always keep a running list of things that I want/need/have to have.  Currently there are several basics on my list that are not necessarily always that fun to purchase but once purchsed (gifted? :)) will get a ton of play time.  I still have not purchased the Michael Kors chunky watch that has been on my wish list for years, the white Chucks will go with everything, the Land's End canvas tote will carry everything, and the glittery TOMS are just too fun.  Not to mention when purchased, a second pair will be donated.  I have been obsessed with the cross necklace for a while now as well because I saw Taylor formerly of the Rachel Zoe Project sporting a similar one through all of season one and I die over Taylor's style.

A few words from Sandy

I found this on a Apartment 34 who found it on another blog, but it is kind of amazing advice.  I dream of meeting her here in Austin and becoming best friends....

Silver Screens

As much as I love a good summer blockbuster, coming out of the freezing theater into blistering temps while squinting into the sun, moveis in the fall are just as fun with their own feel.  Of course Hollywood is gearing up for Oscar season so this is the time for the indie, thought provoking movies that I find are usually shown in smaller theaters which a much different crowd.  Martha Marcy May Marlene is one of those movies that the critics have adored thus far and the trailer makes it clear as to why.  I am really looking forward to this movie as well as My Week with Marilyn and Like Crazy.  I can almost smell the popcorn....although I am much more of a sneak in my own Junior Mints type of girl.

Across the Pond

One of my friends who has fantastic taste in music posted this video the other day and I am now obsessed and eagerly awaitng a full album.  Lana Del Ray is British but has been living stateside since she turned 18.  Her voice is both haunting and sultry, and as you can see, she is not to hard on the eyes.  She has that great pin-up look that I am sure leaves all the boys swooning.

Clean and Dirty

I have a love for beauty products as many women do, however, I often find other women asking me for recommendations.  Recently someone asked me about how I clean my make-up brushes.  (Yes you should be doing this!  It helps get rid of bacteria and other fun things that make their way onto your brushes and subsequently...your face.)  As a lover of all things MAC, I suggested their make-up brush cleaner.  A couple weeks later I was in Target looking for my new favorite make-up removing wipes by E.L.F ( I LOVE the MAC make-up removing wipes as well but this girl is on a budget and the E.L.F. ones are $3, work well, and smell great!) when I discovered they also made a make-up brush cleaner.  Also, for $3.  I quickly added it to my cart and tested it out that evening.  I was really pleasantly surprised on how well it worked and how far just a bit of the product went.

Another product I think women are asking about and are talking about it seems now more than ever, is dry shampoo.  Apparently washing your hair is so OUT.  I am pretty sure I have tried every brand except Oscar Blandi which a trusted source warned me away from.  Salon Grafix, which can be found at Walgreens for sure and most likley other drugstores, is by far and away my favorite.  Here is a run down of two other brands:  Bumble and Bumble WORKS really well but is colored and that is a recipe for disaster.  Trust me, my story is not a chic one.  Everyone seems to be raving about Tresemme lately.  I am almost out of my current can and I won't replace it.  No matter how much you shake the can, this product comes out white and sometimes no amount of brushing gets rid of the color.  I don't know about you, but I don't need to look like a skunk.
