Not a designer, not a stylist (although one day dreams of it), and no longer a slinger of jeans at the Gap...introducing DICTATOR OF TASTE.

Across the Pond
One of my friends who has fantastic taste in music posted this video the other day and I am now obsessed and eagerly awaitng a full album. Lana Del Ray is British but has been living stateside since she turned 18. Her voice is both haunting and sultry, and as you can see, she is not to hard on the eyes. She has that great pin-up look that I am sure leaves all the boys swooning.

Clean and Dirty
I have a love for beauty products as many women do, however, I often find other women asking me for recommendations. Recently someone asked me about how I clean my make-up brushes. (Yes you should be doing this! It helps get rid of bacteria and other fun things that make their way onto your brushes and subsequently...your face.) As a lover of all things MAC, I suggested their make-up brush cleaner. A couple weeks later I was in Target looking for my new favorite make-up removing wipes by E.L.F ( I LOVE the MAC make-up removing wipes as well but this girl is on a budget and the E.L.F. ones are $3, work well, and smell great!) when I discovered they also made a make-up brush cleaner. Also, for $3. I quickly added it to my cart and tested it out that evening. I was really pleasantly surprised on how well it worked and how far just a bit of the product went.
Another product I think women are asking about and are talking about it seems now more than ever, is dry shampoo. Apparently washing your hair is so OUT. I am pretty sure I have tried every brand except Oscar Blandi which a trusted source warned me away from. Salon Grafix, which can be found at Walgreens for sure and most likley other drugstores, is by far and away my favorite. Here is a run down of two other brands: Bumble and Bumble WORKS really well but is colored and that is a recipe for disaster. Trust me, my story is not a chic one. Everyone seems to be raving about Tresemme lately. I am almost out of my current can and I won't replace it. No matter how much you shake the can, this product comes out white and sometimes no amount of brushing gets rid of the color. I don't know about you, but I don't need to look like a skunk.

Mary Kate and Ashley
I have always enjoyed observing Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen's sense of style. Sometimes impeccable, sometimes sloppy and always interesting. I think their clothing lines are fantastic yet ridiculously not affordable. The above photo (courtesy of Popsugar) was taken at an event in Dallas this week. This is a seemingly normal photo to anyone...if you don't live in Texas, which I do. What is amusing about this is that she (and I am honestly not sure which one *she is) is wearing fur. Fur. According to my Iphone it is currently 87 degrees here in Austin at 11:11 am. My understanding is that Dallas has been even warmer this week. The lesson to be learned is that there is a time and place for all types of fashion...when weather appropriate.

Panty Hose
Every where I turn I keep seeing statements and articles about Kate Middleton bringing back natural colored panty hose. No. That's all.

Finally!
The day has finally arrived that has allowed us to view a princess in her gown. And I believe she was truly stunning. In working with Alexander McQueen Catherine really stayed true to her sense of style which is always refined and elegant. Well done Sarah Burton and team! The whole look is fantastic and she was truly a glowing bride. I am happy the wait is over. Congrats to William and Catherine! But...raise your hand if you are a little happy it is over? And we're back...
It has been quite a while since I have posted but life has been quite chaotic of late so here goes...and while I will rarely use this forum to rant, and I do hate to have my first posting in such a long time BE a rant...I just can't keep quiet on this one little thing that has been nagging me for so very long. The above sandal is evidence of my slight irritation. While I love this sandal for it's elegant simplicity and of course I love Rachel Zoe therefore I love glitter and sequins...this lovely item is not worth $98. (for a pair) Has anyone who works at JCrew ever actually WORN their shoes? Not comfy. I have a pair of their gold capri sandals from many years ago and although I love them, they are so not comfortable not to mention that you can kill yourself because they are so slick on the bottom. Don't get me wrong, I love everything JCrew is doing right now. Their styling is impeccable and they manage to make this sort of boho, messy, combining everything in your closet look incredibly chic and polished. I am fascinated by it yet I am not buying what they are selling. Why? It is too darn expensive. All of it. Most often their sale items are even overpriced. And a note to all of those Michelle Obama lovers out there, not only do I care what she is wearing, but JCrew is not low end to all the everyday Americans she is wearing it in front of. In the fashion industry, yes. In the real world, not so much. (photo courtesy of polyvore)
